Kuwait's are keen on diving. They have coral reefs including the delicate acropora species (finger coral) that tolerate extremes in temperatures unlike anywhere else in the world. There have been several Reef Ball project and we have an authorized contractor, Kuwait Reef Balls that serves the area. The Kuwait Dive team even tried making their own Reef Ball molds. Additionally, there is an investigation for a submerged breakwater to protect Qaro Island from erosion.

Louisiana artificial reefs are focused largely on inshore activities since the offshore is dominated by the outflow of the Mississippi river. Reef Ball efforts include reefs in Lake Ponchartrain and erosion control assistance for marsh stabilization. One LSU researcher has even proposed Reef Balls as a possible solution to reduce global warming by CO2 sequestration into the cement of Reef Balls and by the biological activity of Reef Balls.

Malaysia is very advanced in their artificial reef program and there are a thousands of Reef Balls in this county. By far the largest a Reef Ball project in Sarawak by the Forestry Department helps to protect sea turtles and deters illegal netting while providing local fishery enhancement. In Penisular Malaysia, Reef Ball Asia an authoirzed reef ball contractor, works at the grass roots level with a lot of projects for diving, community based efforts, and more. Maryland has recently expoded on the Reef Ball scene since Maryland Environmental Service, a Reef Ball authorized contractor, spearheaded our effort there. Wayne Young (no longer with MES) spearheaded the initial efforts with great intensity. There are so many Reef Ball projects in Maryland we are still trying to document them all. Projects have been focused on oyster restoration and finfish projects mainly in the Chesapeake Bay. Lots and Lots of schools and local grassroots organizations are involved. Some great science is being conducted too.

Massachusetts does not have a very active artificial reef program, but there have been efforts. Buzzards Bay is a good example Reef Ball project. Nantucket Island is experiancing major erosion problems and they have looked at Reef Balls for solutions.

Mexico conducts lots of artificial reef projects especially on the Yucatan Penesula. Reef Balls abound from Campchee on the west, Porto Progress in the northwest, Cancun, Cozumal and Mayan Riviera on the East. Mustique is a celebrety hid-out in the Carribean that had Reef Balls deployed with Coral transplants and investigated Reef Balls for breakwater protecction of "The Great House" one of the exotic private homes on the island. Basil's is the place for food and they sponsered Reef Balls too.

A researcher (Bob Fisher) did a research project in Ramea to find out how well Reef Ball work for clawed lobsters. Wolf Ells loved the center void so much he had to fill the Reef Balls with rocks to entice the lobsters that are a favorite snack of the Wolf Ell.
