Joe Halusky Reef
F lagler County constructed its eighth artificial reef in June, dropping 109 reef balls into the sea, creating a valuable marine habitat and recreational opportunities for area fisherman and divers. The reef was named after Joe Halusky who spent many years assisting the county in the SeaGrant program. Funding for the project was provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Program. The St. Augustine Port, Waterway and Beach District, contributed matching funding for theproject, totaling $10,000.
