2001 Reef Ball Coaltion Project
First thing we did was set up and put the Reef Ball Molds together. Josh here did most of the work :) Next Joe Nero and "Driver" Bob brought the most perfect marine friendly concrete the Coalition has ever seen. After a lot of hard work by the students the molds were filled with concrete and just needed time to cure. The next morning the students started peeling the molds off the Reef balls. And Peeling...and peeling... etc... Next, Charlie Watts of Lynnhaven Dive Center sprayed off the Reef Balls to bring out the proper texture. In the end we had ten PERFECT Reef Balls ready to be deployed. Later that week the students learned how to build and "attempt" to fly hot air balloons. Will and Phil won the contest for the closest to flight "mini hot air balloon." We even had time for a little fun with water balloons. Will, Phil, Gordon and Stephen did put up a good fight. On Friday we headed out to deploy the Reef Balls on the "Sea Search" All the students enjoyed the day eating hot dogs and watching the Reef Balls being deployed.
