Dubai: The Minister of Environment and Water signed his first memorandum of understanding (MoU)
with a local non-profit voluntary organisation yesterday to further protect the UAE's shorelines reefs.
The agreement was signed with the Emirates Diving Association (EDA) and aims to create more
awareness among the fishing community and divers.
Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Kindi, Minister of Environment and Water, said this was to follow up the work
already carried out by the EDA and the Dibba Marine Environment Research Centre.
Reef balls made of concrete were dropped into the sea in 2001 to draw fish to previously empty areas,
said Qasim Al Barwani, from the research centre.
He added 44 more reef balls would be dropped soon.
