The grasses that once provided shelter for marine life in the Chesapeake Bay have been severely depleted by pollution. The purpose of this project is to construct “low-pro” concrete reef balls that will be used by the natural inhabitants of the Chesapeake Bay as a source of shelter and a safe breeding area. Each reef ball weighs approximately 135 pounds.
Acknowledgements Mr. William Huppert, who has a love for teaching and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. His desire to make the Chesapeake Bay a suitable habitat for all organisms that call this resource their home is very inspiring. Andrew Oles who decided to make this venture his Eagle Scout Project. Andrew’s dedication to his community and the ecology is something one does not find in many of today’s youth. The leaders of Troop 247, his fellow Scouts, and his family are very proud of Andrew. The Baltimore County Game and Fish Protective Association who provided the funding and support for this project.
