These planted coral fragments were a first attempt at coral propagation (actually reproducing new colonies rather than just transplanting existing colonies of coral). Reef Ball Foundation will work with PT Newmont to train them on more advanced techniques to perfect the techniques. Here, the coral fragments are incorrectly planted upright instead of sideways that can cause a weak base when the corals get larger. Also, the plugs are a bit large and should be flush with the reef ball surface, also to strenghten their bases for long term growth.
