Girl Scout Reef Ball Project, March 2006  |  Total images: 4
Yesterday (Sunday 7/10/06) Rebecca did a 3 1/2 hour presentation for Girl Scouts ages 13-17. She had about 40 girls and about 25 adults in attendance. She did sessions on coral reefs/artificial reefs, gps systems, and water testing. It was a fun session and the girls seemed to really learn something. There will be (minimum) 2 more sessions for girl scouts and then several sessions for middle schools in the area. The attached file is a press release from our local Girl Scout council. Last Thursday, Rebecca was interviewed live on the radio about the project - we have a recording of that if you'd like a copy. The Sun Sentinel came Sunday and did an article about the program. here's the link but the copy is attached below. I do have some physical copies of the paper if you need. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-creef10jul10,0,3635917.story National Girl Scouts - GSUSA - will be putting information out about the project on their website soon. I'll send you that information when I get it. There was also another article in the Miami Herald a couple of weeks ago. I will have to find the copy of that to send to you. In August of 1994, several Bay and Pallet Balls (tm) were deployed by park officials to determine if modules could be used as a coral reef nursery to harbor transplanted corals until needed for re-transplantation to damaged sites. Molds and modules used in the project were provided free to the park under the Group's Reefs Around The Nation Program (sm).
