The Reef Ball Foundation proved a grant to the Catalina Island Marine Institue which included Reef Ball mold systems and travel and training fees for Reef Innovations, Inc. to teach the staff to build and deploy Reef Balls. The project will place 30-50 Reef and Bay Balls in Toyon Bay, 2 miles west of Avalon, California

Cindy Dawson from the Catalina Island Marine Institute in California reports 1/2 of the planned 30 Reef Balls have been installed in bay this Summer. The remaining Reef Balls will be put down later this month. Cindy is delighted with the results, already she reports eels, lobsters, octopus, fish and algae growth. Monitoring and studies are a continuing part of the project. 1/1/00 12:00 AM
