To complete the marine park there will also be a number of Reef Balls placed in the channel. These Reef Balls are concrete blobs with additives that help start artificial reefs; they are hollow and have dozens of holes throughout. Over 100,000 Reef Balls have been deployed in over 1,500 projects worldwide making Reef Balls the most widely used artificial reef in the world. On average, each of these Reef Balls produces about 397 pounds (180 Kg.) of biomass (animal or plan life). These Reef Balls have a life span of 500 years, adding 20 billion pounds (9 billion Kg.) of biomass to our aquatic ecosystem. For more information, please contact De Palm tours at 582-4400 or visit www.depalm.com. Update:Feb 2007, This project was not completed.
